Montolieu

Near Carcassonne, surrounded by vineyards, there’s a little village called Montolieu. Here, back in the day, they used to make paper. In 1989 Michel Braibant, a local bookbinder, decided to resurrect Montolieu’s history, moving his bookbinding business there and enouraging others in the field to do the same, in the hope of creating a French Hay-on-Wye. Richard Booth even bought a building there to support the project, and now many second-hand booksellers, artists, printers and craftsmen have come together to bring Montolieu’s love of literature back to life.
